Manistee, Michigan - The Victorian Port City

How fired up are you about the pool?

I remember when I first moved to Manistee after graduating from CMU in 1996. There was talk of a pool then, thanks to the incredible generosity of the Paine family, the pool will soon (in a relative way) be a reality. Very cool. Share your thoughts of how the pool might impact the community.

We have a beautiful pool at the end of 1st Street and 5th Avenues. Let's work on keeping it clean and open to the public. Use our natural and financial resources wisely!

Good idea Howard but those pools are closed in the winter. Manistee is lucky to have the Paine Family and their generosity.

I really don't care to swim in lake Michigan in the winter. I do agree that we need to keep our beaches cleaner.

I think it is great for manistee however I think a walmart or meijer was VERY much needed in manistee still hoping something will come in soon. :)

Yes. With the price of gas, having to make a bi-weekly trip is terrible! I really don't understand the people's arguments against it. They make no sense, and are stopping our town from moving forward. Why do we need a dump anyway? I would much rather look at a Walmart!

A swimming pool is a terrific idea, not that I'd ever show my unclad body in public. What about Wal-Mart, though? i think the city caved in to the fear of being yelled at.

Too many people complained about Walmart. People in Manistee just can't accept change. Successful communities need change. I am really sick of hearing that a business wants to come to Manistee, and it gets shot down with dumb excuses.

Who can afford to shop at glens and Olson's in these day's and times. I sure can't I have to go to ludington walmart . I used to shop at glens in manistee but when you spend over $200.00 for a weeks worth it's time to look around. Now I spend about $135.00 - $165.00 depending on what I need. I will take a savings where ever I can get it who wouldn't .

Just yesterday, because we wanted to know if the cost of gas justified driving to Ludington for groceries, my wife compared Walmart's prices with the same prices at Glen's. Whoa! We justified the gas, alright.
