So, what's with the smell?
The first night I spent in Manistee was at the Lakeshore Inn, down at the First Avenue beach. My wife and I had purchased a house a year before, and I had come to see it for the first time. When I got up in the morning and went into the bathroom, I was hammered by a smell that made me wonder, geez, who stunk up the place.
Turns out that the smell is part of the Manistee ambiance. It comes and goes, but has been a regular feature of Manistee's olfactory life for years.
